I have no idea how long before she’s due but the baby hasn’t even dropped here so it might be a while still. I love that nice round tummy. I think other women find one who’s pregnant really beautiful – more so than men do (except maybe the proud father).
My pregnancies were sure different than most women. I ate like a horse but gained little weight. For all 3, I only gained about 5 lbs!! Yet, my first baby was 8 lb 2 oz! I lost weight on other parts of my body & my stomach was so hard as it was only skin, uterus & baby (as my doctor said). It wasn’t ever a proper round stomach but had a kidney bean shape to it due to the way the baby was curled up. Me, I thought this was normal till I learned later that’s NOT how a pregnancy usualy is. All were strapping good sized healthy boys too.
What struck me most, in this case, was the relatively elegant dress that the woman was wearing. I don’t know if it’s considered elegant or stylish, but it certainly seemed like a fairly "fancy" dress to be wearing in the middle of the day (well, mid-afternoon). I’ve photographed a few other pregnant women during the course of the summer, and they all seem to be wearing very light, simple dresses — presumably to cope with the heat.
This one is fairly badly focused, but it was a "hip shot" – I didn’t even have time to raise the camera viewfinder to my eye before she started crossing the street…
The choice of dress is unusual, especially since she has very casual flats on & a halter top under the dress (trust me – I’m female). The dress isn’t even a maternity dress either since the hem is very high in the front. Don’t you wish you could ask her why she chose it. I’m always trying to figure out what makes people think (or in some cases, don’t think).
Well, I wouldn’t have grasped the significance of the sandals and halter top, but I did think the dress was a bit odd. I’m not sure I would have asked her why she chose the dress, but I would like to have known a little more about her life, in general. But we New Yorkers are usually pretty careful not to intrude on one another’s personal lives…
